Texas’ population is booming with no signs of stopping.

According to the 2025 Texas Migration Report, over 265,000 people have become residents of Texas within the past year, which amounts to roughly 726 new Texans arriving every single day.

California, Florida, and Colorado are responsible for one third of all out-of-state arrivals – a whopping 14 per cent of all inbound movers, or one in seven new residents to Texas. It’s a tradeoff between high housing costs and soaring taxes to higher affordability and job opportunities. With those metrics in mind, it’s no wonder so many residents are flocking here.

Another nine per cent landed from Florida, while (former) Coloradans also fled to Texas, contributing 4.5 per cent to the total population. The Dallas-Fort Worth area has proven popular and saw a high number of arrivals – the most of any area, at about 500,000 new residents arriving last year. Houston, Austin, and San Antonio followed close behind.

Many Texans also moved to different Texas metros, with one in five movers relocating from Houston to Dallas. Residents who uprooted and started again in Texas are mostly from middle- and upper-middle-income households, with 41 per cent earning between $51,000 and $100,000. 33 per cent earned $101,000 to $200,000.

Gen X and Millennials led the charge to Texas, making up three of every four new residents. They seek better opportunities – and a better future for their families – as part of this notable wave of new arrivals. No matter your thoughts, this is a train that shows no signs of stopping at any station, save for the final one – the Lone Star State.
