Greg Rodriguez, a trailblazing broadcaster and dedicated public servant in the Bryan/College Station community, passed away at the age of 81. Known affectionately as “El Amigo del Pueblo” or “The Friend of the People,” Rodriguez captivated audiences for decades as the beloved voice of local radio station KTAM Radio Alegria 1240 am. With his warm, engaging on-air presence, he brought joy, inspiration, and a sense of camaraderie to all who tuned in. Rodriguez’s commitment to his community extended far beyond the broadcast booth. He served with distinction as a Bryan city councilman from 1995 to 2001, tirelessly advocating for the needs and interests of his constituents. His passion for public service also led him to take active roles in numerous community organizations, where he worked to make a positive difference in the lives of others. As news of his passing spreads, the entire Bryan/College Station community mourns the loss of a true local legend. Greg Rodriguez leaves behind a remarkable legacy of service, compassion, and dedication that will never be forgotten. His family, friends, colleagues, and the countless listeners whose lives he touched are united in remembering and celebrating the indelible mark he made. A wake and rosary in his honor will be held on Friday, May 16th at Santa Teresa Catholic Church in Bryan from 5:00-8:00 pm, followed by a funeral mass at the church on Saturday morning, May 17th at 9:00 am. The community grieves the loss of an irreplaceable voice, a committed public servant, and above all, a kind and loving friend. Rest in peace, Greg Rodriguez.
