Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with KTAM Radio Alegria and First Financial Bank!
Hispanic Heritage Month recognizes and celebrates the diverse achievements, contributions, histories and cultures of American citizens from Central and South America, Mexico, Spain, and the Caribbean. Hispanic Heritage Month is full of festivals, events, and activities, but what does it celebrate? While Latino/a and Hispanic cultures are important and celebrated every day, they are particularly marked and recognized during one month each year: September 15 – October 15. This important month-long event recognizes the contributions, histories, and cultures of Americans who hail from 20 countries and territories across the globe.
KTAM will highlight vingettes of Hispanic persons making significant contributions to our country during National Hispanic Heritage Month. Sonia Sotomayor, born in New York City to Puerto Rican parents, broke boundaries in 2009 when she became the first Latina and third woman to serve on the Supreme Court of the United States. Ellen Ochoa became the first Latina astronaut in space in 1991 and flew aboard the space shuttle Discovery in 1993.
